What To Do When You Have A Roof Leak
Take Care of Interior First. Once water penetrates the ceiling and finds an escape route, it will start pouring into your home. Place a bucket under the leak to temporarily contain the water. If you have water coming out of multiple cracks in the same area, poke a hole in the center of the leak so that it all drains into that hole and is easily captured in the bucket.
Find The Leak. Start with the attic. Look for wet spots in the sheathing or insulation. Be mindful that the leak with the roof and attic may not align, but water will usually fall to joint of the plywood, depending on the pitch of your roof.
Call Us! Keep the leak maintained with the steps above and then give us a call. Depending on the severity, we will come patch or tarp the leak until we agree on permanent solution. You may be eligible for a brand new roof!
Extend The Life Of Your Roof
Make Annual Inspections. Look at all skylights and chimneys to make sure the flashing hasn’t started to fall apart or deteriorate. Check all vents to make sure they’re not being blocked with debris such as limbs, leaves, or pine straw. Make sure all attic fans are working properly so that your roof is properly ventilated. Roofs that are not properly ventilated have a much shorter lifetime.
Replace Missing Shingles Promptly. If you notice any blown shingles, call us immediately for repair. A roof with missing shingles that is exposed to rain, snow, wind, hail, etc. will cause the sheathing to rot and eventually leak into your house, which will be a bigger mess.
Cut Overhanging Branches. This prevents limbs, big or small, from causing damage to the roof.
Clean Your Gutters. By regularly clearing your gutters of leaves and debris, you can prevent rainwater from backing up and damaging your shinlges/sheathing. It’s recommended to clean your gutters in both Spring and Fall.
